teamLab Planets Tokyo Guide: Tickets, What to Wear and How to Get There

Imagine stepping into a room where lights seem to stretch forever, flowers surround you, and colourful koi move through the water around your legs.

At teamLab Planets in Tokyo, you become part of the artwork simply by walking through it. A little preparation makes your visit much easier—especially when it comes to tickets and what to wear.

Here is what to know before you go.

What Is teamLab Planets?

teamLab is an art collective that creates immersive experiences using art and technology. At teamLab Planets in Toyosu, Tokyo, light, water and reflections turn entire rooms into artworks you can explore.

Some installations respond to your presence, so the people around you become part of the experience too.

Highlights include the sparkling Infinite Crystal Universe, projected koi in the water, and the Floating Flower Garden. There are plenty of photo opportunities, but leave yourself time to put your phone down and enjoy the spaces as well.

The museum expanded in January 2025 with additional interactive areas, including Athletics Forest, Catching and Collecting Forest, and Future Park.

When booking, check that your ticket is for teamLab Planets in Toyosu. teamLab Borderless is a separate Tokyo venue.

Book Your Tickets Before You Go

My main planning tip is to buy your tickets in advance.

teamLab Planets can get busy, and booking ahead gives you a better chance of finding a date and entry time that fits your itinerary. The official FAQ currently states that tickets are not sold on-site, so avoid arriving without a booking.

For a standard timed-entry ticket, select your date and admission slot. Read the conditions for your chosen KKday package carefully, particularly its cancellation policy and entry instructions.

An advance ticket does not mean there will be no queue. Leave a little flexibility in your schedule.

You May Get Wet

In the water area, you remove your shoes and socks and explore barefoot. The water can reach an adult’s knees, so your clothes may get wet.

Choose shorts or trousers that roll up comfortably above your knees. Tight jeans or long hems could be inconvenient.

For young children, pack spare clothes. A change of outfit is a simple way to keep the rest of your day comfortable.

Avoid Skirts and Dresses: Some Floors Are Mirrors

Some installations have mirrored floors, which can reflect underneath your clothing. For that reason, I would choose shorts or suitable trousers rather than a skirt or dress.

Free loan shorts are available if you need them. Ask a member of staff and return them before leaving.

Choosing your outfit with both the water and mirrors in mind saves you having to think about it once you are inside.

How to Get There

From Shin-Toyosu Station
About a 1-minute walk from the north exit. This station is on the Yurikamome Line.

From Toyosu Station
About a 10-minute walk from Exit 7 of the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line.

From Shijo-mae Station
About a 5-minute walk on the Yurikamome Line.

If you are already travelling on the Yurakucho Line, walking from Toyosu is an easy option. You do not necessarily need to change trains just to reach the closest station.

How Much Time Should You Allow?

I would set aside around 2–3 hours inside, with extra time for arrival and any entrance queue.

This is a planning estimate rather than a fixed visit length. Your pace, photo stops and time in the interactive areas will all make a difference.

Older guides may suggest a much shorter visit, but the museum has grown since its 2025 expansion. A visitor survey after the expansion found that around 60% stayed for at least two hours. Avoid squeezing it into a tiny gap between other bookings.

Opening Hours

The official website currently lists 8:00 am–10:00 pm, with last admission one hour before closing.

Hours and closure dates can change. Check the schedule for your visit date before making plans, and follow the admission time on your ticket.

A Little Preparation Goes a Long Way

For this visit, my checklist would be simple: book ahead, wear something suitable for water and mirrored floors, and leave enough time to explore.

Once those details are sorted, you can concentrate on the lights, reflections and changing spaces around you.
